Summer. That time of year when teachers bid farewell to students, hoping their gleefully escaping little ones don't forget everything they've learned during the school year. It is also the time of year when parents take on the challenge of keeping their children physically busy and mentally active during long summer days. To help those efforts, here are some ideas that not only reinforce skills taught during the year, but also to entertain students through the summer months.
1. Color with your child. Use pencils, crayons, markers, rulers to create, decorate.
2. Teach them to cook. Find simple summer treat recipes to have fun with.
3. Go for a walk in a local park or nature trail. (don't forget the bug spray)
4. Go visit your local Library. They love it when we do! Librarians are our Friends!
5. Read aloud to your child. Let them pick their favorite book for you to read.
6. Catch fireflies at dusk and save in a jar. (try to remember to let them go when finished)
7. Get a box of sidewalk chalk and color your driveway. Trust me..This is fun!
8. Keep a journal of each day of summer. A keepsake for a lifetime. Date and sign it.
9. Go visit a National Park. We have many in the USA. (again, Bug Spray!)
10. Start a family or neighborhood book club. (you'd be surprised how many would love this)
11. Work in the garden (if you have access to one)
12. Remember to have fun. Be Safe.
(psst....don't forget the bug spray....)
